Villa Volpicelli, with its hanging gardens and stunning views, is one of the most charming villas in Posillipo
Villa Volpicelli is one of the most charming villas in Posillipo, due to its unique architectural structure, its hanging gardens, and the almost 360-degree breathtaking views from its terraces.
The turreted and crenellated villa is a geomorphic structure whose construction dates back to the early 1600s, on structures and ruins from the Roman era and watchtowers from the Aragonese period. It appears in Baratta’s cartography of 1629, in the subsequent one at the end of the 1600s, and in that of cartographer Miotte, who indicates it as a fort held by the people. We are in 1649, during the revolutionary movements of Masaniello.
The imposing structure has alternatively served as a manor house and fortification, as well as the site of the Bourbon battery.
Villa Volpicelli, due to its unique views and the exceptional park overlooking the sea, terraced on five levels, with an English garden and Mediterranean scrub, featuring a variety of prestigious plants, has been the location for important events of historical and artistic significance.
